Who we are
Pema Choling e.V. is the non-profit association behind the Buddhist center and retreat house Pema Choling at the Historical Parish Courtyard of Dewitz. The founding assembly took place in March 2026. The association is still taking shape.
Pema Choling e.V. understands itself in the tradition of the Buddhist Sangha: as a community in which Buddhist values, meditation practice, and rituals can be lived. This offering is explicitly open to practitioners of all Buddhist traditions, as well as to anyone who feels connected to the values and aims of Buddhism.
The spiritual leader of Pema Choling at the Historical Parish Courtyard of Dewitz is Norbu Tsering Rinpoche.
Aims of the Association
The promotion of Buddhist meditation and practice, regardless of prior experience, denomination, or tradition.
The promotion of spiritual education and contemplative practice as a contribution to personal development and social well-being.
The promotion of intercultural encounter and dialogue between Western and Eastern — particularly Tibetan Buddhist — culture.
The authentic preservation and practice of the rich ritual tradition of the Dudjom Tersar within the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism.
Becoming a Member
Sangha gatherings with samu (mindful work practice), shared rituals, meditation practice, and communal experience.
Members are invited several times a year to fixed association gatherings with overnight stays at the parish courtyard. Attendance is not obligatory. During these shared stays, members take part in communal tasks in the house and garden, practice and meditate together, exchange ideas, and spend time together. Attendance is also open to interested guests for a contribution toward costs. The association covers members’ accommodation costs.
How this works: The association rents the accommodations at the parish courtyard at local market rates — a requirement for the association’s recognition as non-profit by the tax authorities. The association finances its members’ accommodation costs from retreat income and from donations.
Association Meetings
Association meetings take place roughly every six to eight weeks and are mostly held virtually.
Participation in retreats and other events
Members who volunteer in organizing and running a retreat take part free of charge.
Membership fee
€100 per year. Upon request, the fee can be reduced.
The association is currently being established. Details of the program and association gatherings are being developed together and may still change.
